Scar Retexturing in Las Vegas and Vancouver - Collagen Induction Therapy to Soften, Flatten, and Reduce Scar Appearance

Falcon Artistry offers scar retexturing in Las Vegas and Vancouver for clients with raised, thick, tight, or discoloured scars. Scar retexturing uses collagen induction therapy to break up scar tissue and trigger the skin’s natural re-healing process. This procedure reduces scar appearance, colour, tissue thickness, and consistency without tattooing. Candice Falcon is a globally recognized specialist in medical and restorative tattooing and scar treatment. Each case is assessed individually through a mandatory photo review before booking.

Scar Retexturing and Collagen Induction Therapy

Scar retexturing is a non-tattoo procedure that changes the texture, colour, and thickness of scar tissue. The technique is also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT). It works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the scar tissue. These micro-injuries trigger the body’s natural wound-healing response. The scar re-heals in a revised state with softer texture, reduced thickness, and improved colour blending with surrounding skin.

This procedure does not involve ink or pigment. No tattooing is required. Scar retexturing is a standalone treatment that addresses texture and thickness. It is also used as a preparatory step before scar camouflage tattooing, which requires a flat, smooth surface for even pigment application.

Scar retexturing achieves results that traditional scar treatments often cannot. Previous approaches such as microdermabrasion, steroid injections, laser treatment, and silicone scar patches have limited effectiveness on thicker or raised scars. Collagen induction therapy directly restructures the scar tissue itself.

Candidacy Requirements for Scar Retexturing

A photo assessment is mandatory before booking a scar retexturing appointment. Candidacy depends on several factors specific to each scar.

Key candidacy factors:

  • Scar Age: The scar must be fully healed and at least 4 months old. The minimum wait time varies depending on the size, type, and location of the scar.

  • Scar Texture: Raised, thick, rigid, or tight scars are the primary candidates. Candice evaluates whether the scar is raised above the skin or flat and flush.

  • Scar Size: The approximate size of the scar determines the treatment scope and number of sessions required. Larger scars require multiple sessions.

  • Sun Exposure: Fresh or healing scars must be kept out of direct sunlight. Sun exposure on a healing scar can cause darker pigmentation. Protect healing scars from UV exposure before and after treatment.

Photos must be submitted by email to info@falconartistry.com before any booking. Consultations are free and reserved for confirmed candidates who want to discuss their case in person. Candidacy approval and a custom quote are provided after the photo review.

Benefits of Scar Retexturing

Scar retexturing produces measurable improvements across multiple scar characteristics:

  • Reduced Scar Thickness: Thick, raised scar tissue is broken down and softened. The scar flattens closer to the level of surrounding skin.

  • Improved Colour: Dark, red, or discoloured scars shift toward the surrounding skin tone as the tissue regenerates during the re-healing process.

  • Softer Texture: Hard, rigid scar tissue becomes softer and more pliable. The scar blends more naturally with the surrounding skin texture.

  • Increased Flexibility: Tight scars that restrict movement or pull on surrounding skin become more flexible after retexturing. This is particularly beneficial for post-surgical scars across joints or large body areas.

  • Preparation for Camouflage Tattooing: Raised or textured scars cannot hold camouflage tattoo pigment evenly. Scar retexturing flattens the tissue first, making camouflage tattooing possible in a subsequent session.

Types of Scars Treated with Retexturing

Scar retexturing at Falcon Artistry addresses a range of scar types and conditions:

  • Post-Surgical Scars: Scars from tummy tucks, C-sections, breast surgeries, facelifts, reconstructive procedures, and other surgeries

  • Raised or Hypertrophic Scars: Scars that sit above the surrounding skin surface due to excess collagen production during healing

  • Thick or Rigid Scars: Dense scar tissue that feels hard, tight, or inflexible compared to surrounding skin

  • Burn Scars: Healed burn scars with altered texture, thickness, or tightness

  • Traumatic Scars: Scars from injuries or accidents that have healed with uneven texture or thickness

  • Large Scars: Extensive scars that cover a significant area. Large scars typically require multiple retexturing sessions to treat the full area

Scar Retexturing

Scars can be “broken up” and softened with this procedure to reduce their appearance, colour, tissue thickness and consistency. Scar camouflage tattoos are only suitable in very specific instances. If you are considering this treatment please book a consultation before booking your procedure.

FOLLOW UP INFO (Return existing clients):

  • Follow up appointments vary in timing depending on your skin type and how long your skin  and ink take to “settle.” Ideally we can check in and see how you are progressing at the 8  week mark to assess when you could return for subsequent appointments.

  • I understand that the price of my procedure includes 1 appointment only. These services  can require a few sessions (depending on your service) to ensure your results are optimal.  Your follow up sessions build off of your healed results, layering your colouring to keep it  natural looking, and any adjustments are made if needed.

The Scar Retexturing Process at Falcon Artistry

Every scar retexturing appointment at Falcon Artistry follows a structured, client-involved process.

  1. Photo Assessment & Candidacy Confirmation: Submit photos of your scar by email. Candice reviews the images to confirm candidacy, assess the scar’s texture and size, and provide a custom quote with an estimated number of sessions.

  2. Goal Discussion: At the appointment, Candice reviews your goals and explains what to expect. Examples from past clients are available for reference.

  3. Mapping and Planning: The treatment area is mapped directly on your body. Candice identifies which sections of the scar will be treated in the current session and outlines the plan for subsequent sessions if needed.

  4. Collagen Induction Therapy: The retexturing procedure is performed. Controlled micro-injuries are created in the scar tissue to trigger the body’s natural re-healing response. The scar begins to restructure from within.

  5. Follow-Up & Assessment: A follow-up check is recommended at approximately 8 weeks after the session. Candice assesses healing progress and determines when the next session can be scheduled. Follow-up timing varies by skin type and individual healing response.

Healing and Recovery After Scar Retexturing

After a scar retexturing session, the treated scar enters a re-healing phase. The scar may appear pink or reddened for several weeks as the tissue restructures. This is a normal part of the collagen remodelling process.

Larger scars that require more extensive treatment may have a longer visible re-healing period. The scar progressively softens, flattens, and blends with surrounding skin as the re-healing completes.

Follow-up sessions build on the results of each previous session. Each treatment further softens the texture, reduces thickness, and improves the overall appearance. The full benefit of retexturing becomes apparent over multiple sessions as the tissue continues to remodel between appointments.

Aftercare includes protecting the treated area from direct sun exposure. UV light on a re-healing scar can cause hyperpigmentation and darken the treated area. Sun protection is critical during the entire healing period.

Scar Retexturing Compared to Other Scar Treatments

Clients often arrive at Falcon Artistry after trying other scar treatments with limited results. Scar retexturing through collagen induction therapy differs from traditional approaches:

  • Microdermabrasion: Surface-level treatment with longer downtime and approximately 10% improvement. Does not address deep scar tissue structure.

  • Steroid Injections: Can flatten raised scars but do not address texture, colour, or flexibility. Limited to specific scar types.

  • Laser Treatment: Targets surface colour and texture but may not effectively restructure thick or deep scar tissue.

  • Silicone Scar Patches: Provide pressure and hydration to flatten scars over time. Results are gradual and limited on older, established scars.

  • Scar Retexturing (Collagen Induction Therapy): Directly restructures scar tissue from within. Addresses thickness, texture, colour, and flexibility in a single treatment approach. Produces progressive improvement across multiple sessions.

Scar Retexturing as a Preparation for Scar Camouflage Tattooing

Scar camouflage tattooing requires a flat, smooth skin surface to hold pigment evenly. Raised or textured scars produce uneven blending when tattooed directly. Scar retexturing flattens and softens the tissue first, creating an ideal surface for camouflage tattooing in a subsequent session.

For clients whose goal is both texture improvement and colour blending, Candice designs a phased treatment plan. Scar retexturing is completed first. Once the scar is flat and healed, scar camouflage tattooing is applied to match the remaining colour difference with surrounding skin tone.

Not all scars require both treatments. Some clients achieve their desired result with retexturing alone. Candice advises on the recommended approach during the photo assessment.
