Eyebrow Tattoo Overview

Define your face with low maintenance brows and the freedom to live your life without worrying about putting brows on, or checking they’re still on while you live your life!

Putting on makeup should be a choice because you want to- not an obligation to so you have brows before you run out and do errands!

There are 3 types of eyebrow tattoos. Microblading is the most well-known trend, but the Powder Brow is the most sought-after tattoo we do! Combination brows are hairstroke and powder methods mixed together. Keep reading for descriptions of each service to see which is right for you!

Microblading is a form of cosmetic tattooing and is not semi-permanent. (This is a common misconception, there is no such thing as the skin does not go back to it’s previous, un-tattooed state.) Microblading has been a large trend in recent years and there is a lot of misinformation-it is not generally ideal for those with oily or mature skin, naturally thicker brows or people who have dark, thick eyebrow hair as the tattooed hair strokes wouldn’t match the natural hairs. There are frequent follow up appointments required for this technique and generally the Powder Brow is recommended once the brows have been tattooed 1-2 times- when you are more comfortable with the appearance. Multiple microblading appointments can cause scarring from cutting the skin and easily age in unideal colouring.

Why don’t we do Microblading?

Powderbrows (with optional soft ombre fronts)

OUR MOST POPULAR BROW SERVICE: This brow technique uses a machine to give a soft-pigmented, defined eyebrow shape. It mimics the look of soft makeup, giving a background shape of your brow no matter how much hair you naturally have. This works for sparse and fair hair as well as darker, thicker haired brows. This also suits soft natural to bold brow styles.

  • This is healthier for the skin as they don’t tend to require many follow up appointments.

  • They typically look their best for two or three years (depending on long-term care and skin type) before you’d want a refresher.

Healed Powderbrows:

Hairstroke or Combination Brows

This brow technique is similar to microblading, but is achieved with the use of a machine and is a bolder yet natural look that simulates hair at the front of the brow. A powder brow technique that mimics the look of a makeup-applied brow is added to fill between the hairs for more definition. They typically look their best for two or three years (depending on long-term care and skin type) before you would want a refresher.

Eyebrow Correction (Brows done elsewhere)

Do you have brows you’re not happy with?

If it is at all possible, we try to avoid doing unnecessary full removal of the previous tattoo (if we can), to maintain the health of the skin as much as we can. Powderbrows can blend over existing microblading, correcting colour and shape. If there is a small piece of tattoo outside of our new shape, removal can be done in a different session in the future after healing.

If the existing brows shape is too big/far outside the shape or too dark, we can do removal to adjust or lighten in advance.

Follow-Up Appointment (Return clients only)

  • Follow up appointments may be made for after the 6-8 week mark.

  • I understand that the price of my procedure includes one appointment.

These services typically require 2 sessions to ensure your results are optimal. Your second session builds off of your healed result, perfecting your shape and colouring, and any adjustments are made if needed. After this, maintenance sessions keep your work looking refreshed.

Eyebrow Tattoo Frequently Asked Questions

  • The hair stroke eyebrow process is similar ineffect to microblading, but is done with a machine. The strokes copy the color and style of your hair and complexion to form a natural look. The finished product is light, feathered, and creates perfectly natural eyebrows. Not everyone is a candidate for this service: those with large pores, mature skin, oily skin or those with naturally thick brow hair are not candidates. The alternative to this is the “combo technique” or “powderbrow.”

  • Powderbrows, which can also be done with an ombré technique (lighter near the head of the brow and more defined near the tail), is ideal for all skin types. Powderbrows can also cover previous tattooed brows (dependent on size, shape and darkness of original tattoo, as removal may be required.) This technique creates a soft shaded brow that gives definition to the brow whether you have light and thin brows, or naturally bold and dark brows. This is the ultimate in low maintenance, for people who are sick of filling in their eyebrows every day.

  • Pain tolerance varies from person to person. We use a medical grade topical anesthetic to numb the treated area 20 minutes before and another type for during your procedure to make you feel comfortable. Some people have even fallen asleep during the service!

  • Your treatment will appear darker, bolder and larger for the first few days but wouldn’t look too unusual. It is usually more obvious to the person themselves who is used to their brows a certain way, than other people. There may be some redness the day of but there is no downtime and you can go to work or an event if you want. Keep in mind you must follow your aftercare which includes no makeup over the fresh tattoo.

  • The structure of a human face is never perfectly symmetrical, and muscle movements are often dominant on one side of the face. For this reason, perfect symmetry cannot be guaranteed. We will, however, draw the shape before it is tattooed with the best possible balance and symmetry for your face. We will not commence with the procedure until you are absolutely satisfied with your design.

  • Two appointments are generally required for optimal results, with a minimum of 6-8 weeks in between. We like to start conservatively to ensure natural-looking results. Sometimes a single appointment may suffice, but follow ups are ideal to get your brows to a point where you love them and you are good to go for years! For Brow Revision (on existing brows) two appointments are almost always required. During the touch-up treatment, we will how the skin has healed and make any necessary adjustments. Everyone heals uniquely, and at different rates.

  • Healing times can vary – The initial healing can take approximately 2 weeks. Your aftercare is to be adhered to when there is still any scabbing protecting the tattoo. The fully healed time can be between 6-8 weeks. This is when the colour will have stabilized and the skin has had a chance to regenerate. Everyone heals a little differently. After the tattoo 6-8 weeks, another session can be performed. Please note that final results varies from one person to another and cannot be guaranteed as each client’s skin type will respond differently in healing time, color retention and number of sessions needed for desired results. Following the aftercare is imperative, for best results.

  • Aftercare is gone over with you at the end of your appointment and you have the opportunity to ask any questions. It is imperetive that you follow these directions to ensure the best possible healed results. Please refer to the Aftercare page for detailed instructions.

  • This varies depending on the style and colour of the tattoo (lighter, thinner or hairstroke tattoos fade faster) the client’s skin, lifestyle, longterm aftercare and health condition. The tattoo is considered permanent but will gradually fade and may need follow up appointments to refresh the colour to your preference. This is usually done anywhere from 2-5 years after a service.

  • Microblading is a type of cosmetic tattoo, and the pigments used for cosmetic tattoos are a different composition to soften and be easily adjusted over time as the face changes. Additionally, microblading pigments are implanted in thin strokes, causing the look to fade over time. Please keep in mind- Falcon Artistry does classify microblading as permanent makeup, not semi-permanent, because although the pigments will fade, your skin will not fully return to its pre-tattooed state. So the answer to, “Is microblading permanent?” – yes.
