Lip Tattoo Portfolio
Falcon Artistry offers restorative and cosmetic lip tattoos. Lip tattooing restores natural lip shape after injury or surgery and enhances lip colour, definition, and symmetry through permanent makeup techniques. Every lip tattoo at Falcon Artistry is custom-mixed to match the client’s natural lip colour, face shape, and skin tone.
Restorative Lip Tattoos
Restorative lip tattooing rebuilds lip shape, adjusts colour, corrects symmetry, and covers scarring. This service creates the appearance of a natural lip where tissue has been lost, damaged, or altered. Common cases include:
Traumatic injury
Cleft lip and/or palate
Post-surgical scarring
Pigmentation loss and uneven shape
Balancing incrementally to see how scar tissue that is hard, textured, thick and sensitive reacts & heals. It is common with textured scars to heal unevenly in colour as it needs to be worked on in sections. Skin, scars and lips will all take pigmentation differently and give a different healed colour.
This is one of the cases where a cosmetic tattoo is more restorative. We added pigmentation back in, shaping the contours of the lips and working with hardened scar tissue. This is a mixed tissue case - in the sense that we’re tattooing skin, lip tissue, and scarring. We adjusted the overall colour warmer and more pink as what the client requested, and we’ll still continuing to define lip edges and balance symmetry.
The color will heal differently on scars, lip tissue & facial skin.
The lower lip is over 85% created through tattoo. This client travelled over 250km to see me!
After reconstructive surgery, the lip tissue seen is from the inside of the mouth and also pulled over from one side to the other. The scarring creates tightness and the lips move differently as the skin pulls.
- No lips are perfectly symmetrical & everyone’s lips/mouth move slightly unevenly
- The key is to create more balance in the resting position of the mouth
In this case, I wanted to accommodate the movement of the mouth so it further adjusted the appearance of the lips, not only in rest.
Tattooing scars, lip tissue & facial skin will cause colour variance so it must be adjusted in the second session to build off of our original shape we’ve created.
Something else to consider: lip, scar & skin swell unevenly and I don’t do adjustments until it has healed to ensure we aren’t changing the shape in a swollen state.
The lips can have pinprick bleeding along the edges and bruising that cause the colour to look darker or the edge to look uneven when the tattoo is first done.
This is a special case — It is not recommended in a typical lip tattoo to tattoo outside of the lip skin & vermilion border. The colour the client has chosen was actually a natural-looking pink! The initial appearance is not indicative of the healed result whatsoever. Time & patience with compromised skin will dictate our next steps to complete the look!
Scars will swell and bleed more and not retain as much ink. They also don’t have a “background colour” so they’ll heal lighter. Make sure you don’t tattoo around the scar with the same pressure.
Lip tissue is thinner and will swell and bruise more
Surrounding skin - shouldn’t be tattooed other than in cases like this. Start the appointment with a smaller lip shape than you think and don’t do go in with as much pressure as the ink will go in the easiest and darkest in these areas.
This is the second session, layering on what we had shaped in the first time.. The next session will be for sharpening the shape and blending the colours together one more time.
Lip Liner and Contour & Full Colour Lip Tattoo
A lip liner and contour tattoo is permanent makeup that defines and accentuates the edges of the lips. The colour is applied along the lip line with a soft blend downward into the lip. The natural lip colour is left in the centre. This creates a subtle, defined look without a harsh line. Lip liner and contour is ideal for clients who want enhanced lip definition and shape without full colour coverage. It creates the appearance of fuller, more defined lips while maintaining a natural look.
A full colour lip tattoo lines, defines, and fills the entire lip with custom-mixed colour. The result is balanced, enhanced lips with uniform colour coverage. Lip colour options range from natural tones that closely match the client’s natural lip shade to more vibrant colours for a bolder look. Lipstick can still be applied over a full colour lip tattoo. The tattoo changes the base colour of the lips. Solid-colour lipsticks cover the tattoo completely. Glosses enhance the tattooed colour underneath.
